Freedom has sent a letter to WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert, requesting clarity on the incident and accusing the league of inconsistent policy enforcement. This letter suggests that the league’s rules may have been applied selectively in his case.
Security Intervention and Allegations of Discrimination
There are claims from the Chicago Sky co-owner and others that Freedom provoked Cloud, which he disputes. He describes that Cloud approached his seat, shouting and gesturing at him. When security intervened, Freedom was escorted out. Freedom argues that Cloud’s behavior deserved more scrutiny and accountability.
The league has rules against players engaging in physical or verbal altercations with spectators, with penalties including fines or suspensions. Freedom claims Cloud was neither reprimanded nor punished, despite clear violations.
