Elon Musk’s Political Contributions Ahead of Midterms

Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has significantly bolstered Republican efforts ahead of the midterm elections. Over the past three months, Musk contributed $276 million to Republican super PACs and related organizations. This brings his total political contributions to $366 million, as confirmed by a spokesperson for Musk’s America PAC to The Hill. These figures were first reported by The New York Times.

From July to September, Musk directed $158 million to the Senate Leadership Fund, supporting Republican Senate candidates, and $20 million to the Congressional Leadership Fund, aiding GOP House candidates. Musk’s increased political involvement contrasts with his earlier suggestion of reducing spending for the midterms. His America PAC, launched during the 2024 election, also received over $76 million.

Additional contributions included $10 million to the Lone Star Liberty PAC, backing Texas Republican Senate candidate Ken Paxton, $10 million to the Republican Governors Association, and $2 million to the Republican Attorneys General Association.

Musk began his political involvement during the 2024 elections by investing heavily in Trump’s presidential campaign. He joined Trump’s campaign trail and led a cost-cutting project within the federal government. Musk left the White House in May 2025 after a public disagreement with Trump and remained politically inactive for several months.

In May, Musk expressed plans to decrease political spending, later admitting to The Economist that he became overly engaged in politics.
