Footage from a high-speed chase in Wisconsin earlier this month captures a dramatic moment when the fleeing driver goes airborne, jumping his car over another vehicle. The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office released the footage of the arrest, which took place on Saturday morning, May 9. During the chase, the driver’s car becomes airborne, clearing another car, before ending in a field. The Wisconsin State Patrol initially stopped a car, then called for backup due to an active felony warrant. As additional officers arrived, the driver attempted to escape, leading to a high-speed pursuit.
The chase ended when the driver lost control, entered a ditch, and ascended embankment. This is when the car flew over another vehicle and crossed the road, eventually landing in a field. The driver, Dewayne Stokes, 44, had to be Tased before being taken into custody. The pursuit lasted four and a half miles, with part of it covered through the air.
Stokes was hospitalized with minor injuries and charged with seven counts, including first-degree reckless endangering safety and two counts of eluding an officer. His cash bond was set at $25,000, and he’s due back in court on June 24. He was out on bond at the time for operating a vehicle without the owner’s consent, and a warrant had been issued for his arrest due to a missed court appearance.
