DoorDash has announced a significant acquisition, acquiring Instacart for $17 billion to enhance its grocery delivery services. Despite the acquisition, the Instacart brand and app will continue to operate as usual. Instacart shoppers can still fulfill orders for the platform, and both grocers and customers will have the option to choose between DoorDash and Instacart.
With this acquisition, Instacart customers will gain access to an additional 50,000 stores covered by DoorDash, broadening their shopping options. Instacart, established in 2012, has been specializing in grocery and convenience store deliveries across the United States and Canada. The company employs 600,000 independent contractors as its ‘shoppers,’ who completed 338 million orders in the past year, as per company filings. Before this acquisition, Instacart held a market value of $14 billion.
