Dallas Wings Rise as Top Contenders with Dynamic Duo

The Dallas Wings are solidifying their position as a top contender in the WNBA. This success is largely due to the impressive performances of Paige Bueckers and Azzi Fudd, both of whom were back-to-back No. 1 picks.

In a recent match, the Wings secured an 89-76 victory against the Toronto Tempo, a new expansion team. Bueckers led Dallas with 22 points, seven assists, and three rebounds. Her former UConn teammate, Fudd, also made significant contributions with 17 points, three rebounds, three steals, and two assists. A noteworthy moment was Fudd’s block, marking her 20th career block faster than any player before, according to Yahoo Sports.

Fudd’s focus on team success over individual accolades is evident as she contributes to the Wings’ 13-8 record.

As a rookie, Fudd averages 13.1 points, 1.8 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and one block per game. These stats are impressive given her role as a backup rather than a starter. While she wasn’t selected for the WNBA All-Star Game, her teammates Paige Bueckers and Jessica Sheppard were honored with selections.

Additionally, another rookie, Olivia Miles, has made a strong impression. As a No. 2 overall pick, she averages 18.5 points, 5.7 assists, and 4.5 rebounds per game. Miles benefits statistically from the absence of Minnesota Lynx’s star Napheesa Collier, who will soon return to the court.

The Wings’ decision to draft Fudd first reflects her UConn experience under Geno Auriemma’s coaching, a common background among WNBA stars. Her basketball skills and strong chemistry with Bueckers bolster the Wings’ lineup every time they play together.
