You can now listen to Fox News articles. Recently, Chili’s took a jab at fast-food prices on social media, gaining significant attention.
An X user, @YellowFlashGuy, shared a photo of a menu item at a Burger King location. The meal, a Bacon King sandwich with fries and a drink, was priced at $18.19. The sandwich alone cost $12.99. The user captioned the image, asking why they should choose fast food when restaurant options offer better value and quality.
“This is what we’ve been saying!!!!” Chili’s responded. “Why do y’all let fast food play you like this? Big Crispy Chicken Sandwich 3 for Me with fries, BOTTOMLESS chips and salsa and UNLIMITED drink for $10.99, only at Chili’s.”
The Bacon King from Burger King includes two quarter-pound beef patties, bacon, American cheese, ketchup, and mayonnaise on a sesame seed bun. Chili’s highlighted its own value meal deal, which sparked positive reactions on social media.
Most Burger King locations are owned by local franchise operators. Prices and participation can vary, according to Burger King’s website. Fox News Digital reached out to Burger King for a comment. Chili’s response was viewed over 5 million times, receiving many positive reactions from users.
Some users expressed their decision to visit Chili’s after seeing the tweet. One user commented on having lunch at Chili’s, praising the food, service, and value. Though mostly positive, not all feedback was favorable. An instance of a customer receiving a medium-rare steak caused concern, but many defended the experience as an isolated event.
Chili’s has been challenging fast-food chains on prices in recent years. A spokesperson for Brinker International, Chili’s parent company, shared their ongoing playful campaign against fast-food pricing.
In April, Chili’s announced its Big Crispy Chicken Sandwich, part of its 3 for Me value platform starting at $10.99. According to Brinker International, Chili’s focus on value is boosting growth, with a reported 20th consecutive quarter of same-store sales increase, up by 4%.
Over the past decade, fast-food prices have risen by 60% on average, according to a FinanceBuzz study. Popmenu reported that 68% of U.S. consumers are dining out less often, prioritizing affordability and convenience. Chili’s approach to value aims to tap into this consumer priority.
