Children’s YouTuber Ms. Rachel Accuses Celebrities of Racial Bias in Gaza Conflict

Children’s YouTube star Rachel Griffin Accurso, known as Ms. Rachel, criticized public figures for their silence on the deaths of Palestinian children in Gaza. She argued this lack of vocal advocacy indicates a racial double standard in valuing children’s lives.

Accusations of Racism

Ms. Rachel accused those who have not publicly commented on the conflict of treating Palestinian children differently due to race. “They probably would speak out if these kids were White and from somewhere else,” she stated on Instagram.

Criticism and Controversy

The controversy follows a confrontation between Accurso and podcaster Avi Lichtschein. Lichtschein challenged her use of the term “genocide” to describe Israel’s actions against Hamas. He emphasized Ms. Rachel’s responsibility to understand the impact of her words given her large audience.

Lichtschein stated, “When you have an audience as enormous as hers, you have a responsibility to understand the consequences of the claims you’re amplifying.”

Accurso categorized public figures into those advocating for Palestinian children and those remaining silent due to undervaluing their lives. She highlighted a perceived hierarchy in how children’s lives are prioritized.

Commission Findings and Criticism

According to a United Nations report, over 20,000 Palestinian children were killed and more than 44,000 injured between October 7, 2023, and March 31. Israeli forces were accused of targeting children, contributing to allegations of genocide. However, Israel rejected the report’s findings, noting flaws in its methodology.

These developments occur as Accurso faces backlash for her activism related to Israel. She has denied claims that her advocacy reduces concern for Israeli children.

Reactions and Accusations

Elizabeth Barcohana from the California Republican Party criticized Ms. Rachel’s outrage as selective and misleading. She accused Ms. Rachel of spreading propaganda akin to tactics seen during the 2020 Black Lives Matter movements. Barcohana emphasized the need for parents to be informed about Ms. Rachel’s positions.

Barcohana argued that Ms. Rachel acts as “a mouthpiece for a terrorist organization” by using figures from the Gaza Ministry of Health, which she claimed is controlled by Hamas.

Barcohana stated, “Ms. Rachel is essentially sanitizing terrorism with false and misleading information to emotionally manipulate her very impressionable following.”
