A man in California allegedly left a substantial quantity of suspected methamphetamine behind in a rideshare vehicle. This mishap led to the discovery of the drugs by police officers, as revealed in a recent news release.
The San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) reported that a rideshare driver found and reported the backpack containing approximately three-quarters of a pound of suspected meth. The discovery took place on a Sunday afternoon. Recovered, a treatment directory, estimates the street value of the stash at over $30,000, given prices reaching up to $100 per gram.
A suspect’s rideshare trip took an unexpected turn after he left behind a bag containing more than 300 grams of methamphetamine,
stated the SFPD.
This incident occurred near San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood. The area is infamous for open-air drug activity, homelessness, and violent crime. Police identified the suspect as Jessie Ottman-Comb, a 41-year-old resident from Sacramento.
Authorities collaborated with the rideshare driver to set up the return of the backpack, which allowed them to track down Ottman-Comb to his motel. Upon searching his motel room, officers found two cellphones, two tablets, and additional drug paraphernalia.
All items, including the meth found in the rideshare vehicle, were seized as evidence. In total, officials recovered 355.7 grams of the suspected methamphetamine.
Jessie Ottman-Comb was subsequently booked into San Francisco County Jail. He faces charges such as possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and transportation or sale of methamphetamine.
The investigation is still ongoing, according to police updates.
