Anne Arundel Schools Revise Gender Identity Policy Amid Controversy

The Anne Arundel County Public Schools in Maryland have revised their policy concerning a student’s gender identity. This update removes the previous directive that prevented staff from disclosing a student’s gender identity unless legally required.

The change comes after claims from a lawsuit and the Trump administration, asserting that the previous policy improperly restricted parental access to important information about their children. The former policy classified a student’s gender identity as confidential medical information. This classification was challenged by the Trump administration, which argued that it violated federal law concerning student education records. The administration threatened legal action if the policy was not amended.
