On Monday night, Angel Reese made history in the WNBA with an extraordinary performance against the Los Angeles Sparks. The Atlanta Dream star set multiple records, including the most rebounds in a single game, snagging an incredible 26 rebounds.
Reese’s achievements didn’t stop there. She also broke the record for most rebounds in a single season. By grabbing her 452nd rebound during the game, she surpassed the previous record held by A’ja Wilson. Reese finished the game with 458 rebounds, and her season is still ongoing.
I don’t think in my life I got more than 10 rebounds in my life. That’s just a talent. I’m just in awe watching her rebound. That’s just a talent, said teammate Allisha Gray, expressing her amazement at Reese’s performance.
Reese appeared on the NBC/Peacock postgame show, discussing her mindset after her record-breaking night. She emphasized her determination to claim every rebound, stating, Anything that goes up is mine. You just have to have that mindset. She also mentioned being inspired by all-time great players like Tina Charles, aspiring to join their ranks in her WNBA career.
In just her third season, Reese is already establishing herself as an elite player. She now holds two of the top three rebounding seasons in league history, alongside A’ja Wilson. Her performance helped the Dream secure a 78-71 victory over the Sparks, improving their record to 25-13 and positioning them among the top five teams in the playoff race.
On the opposing team, Nneka Ogwumike, a retiring Sparks legend, also made an impact with 16 rebounds in her double-double performance. Reese’s 26 rebounds surpassed the combined efforts of her teammates, who tallied 22 rebounds altogether, demonstrating her dominance on the court.
The Atlanta Dream continues to strive for playoff positioning with six games remaining in the season. They remain focused on maintaining their strong performance in the WNBA standings.
