The search for a new James Bond is a topic of much interest, and former Bond girl Alison Papworth has voiced her thoughts. Papworth, who also directs a design and consultancy firm in London, spoke to Fox News Digital about her expectations for the next 007. She emphasized the importance of remaining true to the books, expressing a hope that the next Bond will be a man. She said, “A man, just a man. Yes, I think it would be very strange if it were a woman. It would be a totally different thing.”
Papworth, known for her roles in the Bond films “For Your Eyes Only” and “Octopussy,” shared her views before Gary Oldman proposed Jack Lowden, his “Slow Horses” costar, could be a candidate for the next Bond. Oldman mentioned that Lowden was on a shortlist, though he acknowledged that the final choice had been made, he remained hopeful for Lowden.
Amazon MGM Studios took creative control of the Bond franchise in 2025. They are actively searching for the next Bond, with Denis Villeneuve set to direct and Steven Knight to write the screenplay. Actors rumored for consideration include Paul Mescal, Jacob Elordi, and Jack O’Connell. The franchise’s producers, Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, continue their involvement.
Papworth reflected on Roger Moore, stating, “He was an absolute gentleman.” Her fond memories include Moore’s humorous nature and a stuntman’s act of smuggling beef drippings for Moore in India. Papworth recounted her luxurious experiences during filming, such as flying first class and trying caviar for the first time, yet noted that filming the colder scenes of “Octopussy” was challenging.
Papworth initially didn’t expect to appear in more than one Bond film. Contrary to a director’s comments about Bond girl careers, Broccoli assured Papworth of her role in “Octopussy.” This experience fostered lasting friendships. Papworth is thankful for the relationships formed from her Bond work.
After her time in Bond films, Papworth pursued acting and modeling, stepping into interior design as her modeling career stabilized. Her self-taught skills led to a successful business venture. As director of Camhall Design & Consultancy in the U.K., and associated with Lustre & Lustre London, Papworth remains active in her profession.
Despite reflecting on her Bond days, Papworth enjoys staying connected through signings and events. She remarked, “I love show business. It’s fabulous. Maybe I’m lucky that I’m not super famous, so I can have a private life.” Her theatrical journey, enriched by her Bond experiences, continues to provide rewarding moments.
