Alaska Democratic Senate candidate Mary Peltola has denied involvement in an alleged scheme aimed at manipulating the election. She emphatically stated to supporters in Juneau that she was unaware of any plans involving other candidates with her opponent’s name.
Incumbent Sen. Dan Sullivan, a Republican, accused Peltola’s campaign of orchestrating a deceitful plot. Sullivan, speaking with Fox News, criticized Peltola’s alleged actions as highly corrupt, suggesting they were intended to mislead voters.
Sullivan explained his approach, focusing on his record and vision, contrasting it with what he claims to be Peltola’s tactics. “Peltola’s team, including advisers from D.C. and Alaska, prioritized cheating,” Sullivan alleged.
He further accused significant Democratic figures, such as Kirsten Gillibrand and Chuck Schumer, of involvement in the supposed deception. Despite Peltola’s denials, Sullivan maintained his accusations, claiming continued falsehoods from the campaign.
“It’s a scheme at the highest level of scandal,” Sullivan asserted. The campaign purportedly aimed to confuse voters by featuring two candidates named Dan Sullivan.
The New York Times reported that Peltola’s campaign, along with Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee aides, allegedly developed this strategy to divert support from the sitting senator. The ballot lists the incumbent as “Sullivan, Dan S.” and another candidate, a retired teacher, as “Sullivan, Daniel J. Jr.” Critics have nicknamed the latter “Decoy Dan.”
The Justice Department is now considering postponing the certification of the election results due to the presence of two Dan Sullivans on the ballot.
Sen. Sullivan voiced discontent among voters, attributing it to Peltola’s alleged disregard for Alaskans. He accused her campaign of attempting to manipulate votes through confusion.
Sullivan expressed confidence in the outcome, stating a belief in ultimate victory and urging voters to recognize the alleged deception.
