This includes Alabama Crimson Tide, where Coach Kalen DeBoer is considering adding a former player back to the roster, though no immediate decisions are planned. DeBoer discussed the process, highlighting communication with athletic director Greg Byrne on the matter.
“There is a possibility out there of someone who was on our roster in the past. Again, right now, he wouldn’t be able to come in and play,” DeBoer stated, according to video from FOX54 News Huntsville.
The situation ties to a court battle concerning the 2022 recruiting class. Some players from that class received an extra year of NCAA eligibility before a stay was placed on the ruling.
Players like Thomas Castellanos from Florida State secured their own rulings and are transferring to new schools. DeBoer didn’t specify which player from the Class of 2022 might return, but the discussion briefly switched to kickers and punters.
Several players from that class transferred or struggled to meet expectations, excluding Jihaad Campbell, Ty Simpson, and Tyler Booker, who appear content with their NFL careers. Wide receiver Kobe Prentice was recently released by the New England Patriots, hinting at a potential return to Tuscaloosa.
Running back Jam Miller is also fighting for a roster spot and might return, addressing backfield injuries. DeBoer acknowledged the unpredictability of the situation and the need for adaptability.
“You just never know each day in the world we’re in right now, what tomorrow might look like,” he remarked. “We’ll kind of see as we go, but I know there’s a lot of conference and national [officials] figuring this thing out, and Greg Byrne continues to keep me updated on everything.”
DeBoer remains focused on current progress while conference and national officials address rule changes. This evolving scenario may soon present the return of familiar faces to the Crimson Tide.
