Protesters Rally Against New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani

A large group of protesters, carrying Israeli and American flags, gathered near New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s official residence. They expressed discontent with his leadership and approach to antisemitism.

The protest, held near Gracie Mansion on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, included hundreds of participants. They criticized Mamdani for not protecting the Jewish population and held him responsible for ignoring antisemitic issues. The event featured numerous speakers such as James Maslow, Scott LoBaido, and Brooke Goldstein. The protest was organized by #EndJewHatred, a group dedicated to fighting antisemitism.

Throughout the rally, participants chanted phrases like “remove Mamdani” and sang “The Star-Spangled Banner.” The demonstration followed Mamdani’s controversial photo with Mahmoud Khalil, sparking public outrage.

Ari Ackerman, a pro-Israel advocate, highlighted the ideological differences with Mamdani’s administration, pointing to Gracie Mansion and expressing his concerns over changes in the city. Mamdani’s campaign drew criticism for his stance on Israel and his connections with Hasan Piker and Mahmoud Khalil.

Antisemitic incidents in New York City have increased significantly after Hamas’ attacks in Israel on October 7, 2023. Tensions have remained high since Mamdani took office, with many Jewish residents expressing safety concerns. The city hosts the largest Jewish population globally outside of Israel.

Rabbi Yaakov Menken of the Coalition for Jewish Values accused Mamdani of modern antisemitism. Influencer Lizzy Savetsky highlighted Mamdani’s removal of the antisemitism definition as a critical issue. Protesters booed the mayor upon hearing this.

The rally also featured individuals from various religions, emphasizing the protest’s broader purpose beyond antisemitism. Brooke Goldstein questioned the mayor’s commitment to civil rights and equal protection under law.

Abraham Hamra, a Syrian Jew, warned that Mamdani’s actions posed a threat to all Americans, urging collective resistance against radical ideologies. Mamdani’s decision to skip the upcoming Israel Day Parade, attended by previous mayors, drew further criticism.

Anila Ali, who is set to lead a Muslim group in the Israel Day Parade, spoke against Mamdani. Her speech coincided with Eid al-Adha, emphasizing the disconnect between Mamdani’s actions and Islamic teachings.

Critics highlighted Mamdani’s perceived failures in public safety and other areas, pointing to his selective condemnations of antisemitic symbols. They accused him of masking antisemitism under anti-Zionism rhetoric.

The rally captured the broader discontent with Mamdani, with repeated calls for ensuring New York City’s safety and advocating for a more inclusive administration.
