On Tuesday, the Supreme Court dismissed a lawsuit initiated by Florida against California. The case revolved around allegations that California issued commercial truck driver’s licenses to undocumented immigrants. Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito expressed their dissent in the decision.
The lawsuit emerged after a tragic crash in Florida last year, involving Harjinder Singh, an Indian national. The accident resulted in the deaths of three individuals. Florida claimed Singh was in the U.S. without legal status and had been improperly granted licenses in both California and Washington. Singh currently faces criminal charges related to the incident.
Justice Thomas expressed his disagreement with the decision, stating, “This Court declines to even hear Florida’s claims, even though it has nowhere else to bring them. Because I would allow Florida to file its complaint, I respectfully dissent.” His dissent was noted in the orders list released by the Supreme Court on Sunday.
The case remains under scrutiny as it develops further.
