‘Nightcaps’ is a daily column catching you up on significant sports, news, and cultural stories missed during work. It’s available from Monday to Friday on OutKick.com.
This weekend is packed with events. Enjoy football games throughout the weekend and Halloween landing on a Saturday. The next Halloween Saturday won’t occur until 2037, offering a rare opportunity. Also, don’t forget that the clocks go back this weekend for an extra hour.
While some enjoy the change, parents with young kids might find mornings extra early. Adjusting sleep schedules may not always work for the youngest in the family, but everyone will cope as best as possible.
In sports news, Lane Kiffin, the LSU Tigers coach, has sparked conversation again. He’s expressed dissatisfaction regarding the scheduling of the upcoming Alabama-LSU game. The fans and some analysts find this humorously misplaced since ESPN, with input from the SEC, makes those decisions. LSU has had a fair share of night games this season, already surpassing other teams.
If someone thinks the SEC wants us to win this year after what’s been going on, they must have just been on Mars the last four months.
Kiffin’s words address the timing choice, wishing for a primetime slot instead of the 3:30 afternoon time on ABC. This scheduling aligns with strategic broadcasting decisions, especially with competing games like Miami-Notre Dame on NBC.
Shifting gears to baseball, the World Series concluded with the Milwaukee Brewers winning their first title. Their performance was dominant, yet their celebrations seemed subdued. The Brewers beat formidable opponents, including the Padres and the Dodgers, which made their calm celebration notable.
The MLB postseason overall felt lackluster. Even dedicated baseball fans found few memorable moments, despite a notable walk-off by Milwaukee. Those tuning in next season might need to prepare for a long offseason filled with talks about salary caps rather than games.
Finally, keep an eye out for this weekend’s sports events, including a high-scoring college football game. Meanwhile, Halloween festivities add to the excitement, with personalities like Paige Spiranac teasing costumes and celebrations.
Stay tuned for more updates and catch up on all the sports excitement that awaits.
