Chargers’ Offensive Struggles Continue Under New Coordination

The Los Angeles Chargers were optimistic about their offense after appointing Mike McDaniel as their new offensive coordinator this offseason. Seven weeks into the 2026 season, expectations have not been met. The Chargers have started the year with a disappointing 0-6 record and are at the bottom of the league with an average of 15 points per game.

Quarterback Justin Herbert leads an offense that averages only 287.2 total yards per game. Despite these struggles, head coach Jim Harbaugh has decided to keep McDaniel in his role as the offensive play caller.

Herbert spoke out in support of McDaniel, stating, “It’s not his fault. It’s our fault as an offense. We have to do our job. The guys are open. Plays are being made. It’s on us to run, to block, to catch, to throw. It’s on us as an offense.”

After a bye in Week 7, the Chargers are looking for a fresh start as they approach Sunday’s Week 8 game against the Los Angeles Rams. The game is scheduled to begin at 4:05 p.m. ET.
