Macklemore Amplifies Pro-Palestinian Message with New Tour

Macklemore has taken his political stance to a new level. The rapper reinforced his support for Palestinian activism during the launch of his Free Palestine tour. This comes several weeks following his removal from Ed Sheeran’s lineup after controversial statements.

During a concert in Dublin, Macklemore declared, I am proud to stand here in solidarity with the Palestinian people. We will continue to fight for collective liberation until our last breath. These remarks were reported by Reuters.

Referring to past controversy, he stated, Six weeks ago, two words is all that it took alluding to his declaration of Free Palestine while opening for Ed Sheeran.

Macklemore doubled down on these sentiments during the tour’s opening, emphasizing the perceived threat in his words and the reluctance to address their meaning.

The comments received mixed responses online. Some praised Macklemore’s commitment to activism while others questioned his perspective, criticizing him for addressing foreign issues instead of domestic ones. Critics suggested he focus on local issues, like poverty in Skid Row.

Online reactions were polarized. One user criticized, Macklemore is so performative and out of touch. Another suggested he should support local communities, rather than delivering political speeches on stage.

Others commended him, with comments describing him as stunning and brave and thanking him for his courage.

Macklemore launched his tour after being dropped from Ed Sheeran’s Loop Tour due to his stance on Palestine. Sheeran clarified that the decision was made by promoters, not himself, though he acknowledged the conflict as a tragedy.

Macklemore alleged that Robert Kraft, owner of the New England Patriots, influenced the decision to remove him. The Free Palestine tour will proceed to Paris and London, with U.S. dates pending.
