The Cleveland Browns approach their Week 8 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers with a strong 5-2 record. This matchup could influence the AFC North standings significantly. Part of the Browns’ remarkable performance this season is linked to Deshaun Watson’s improved play.

Deshaun Watson’s appointment as the starting quarterback brought some criticisms due to his tumultuous exit from Houston. He joined the Browns amid allegations of sexual misconduct and has faced significant injuries since.

Although Watson has not yet matched his top-tier performance from his time with the Texans, he has accumulated over 1,400 passing yards across seven games. He has stayed healthy and has added much-needed stability at the quarterback position for the Browns.

Among his supporters is ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith, who believes Watson is currently the frontrunner for the NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year award. Smith expressed confidence in Watson’s performances, especially highlighting his ability to lead the Browns to five comeback wins in the fourth quarter.

Stephen A. Smith said, “Deshaun Watson right now is the Comeback Player of the Year.”

These victories have lifted the Browns to the top of their division, largely due to Watson’s crucial plays on the field. Despite setbacks since 2020, Watson has demonstrated resilience, managing to overcome lawsuits, suspension, and injuries.

Since being part of the AFC North from the league’s 2002 realignment, the Browns haven’t claimed the division title. As they travel to face Pittsburgh, they aim to continue their momentum with Watson leading the charge.
