Community Celebration
The midnight release party on October 26 brought together fans dressed in elaborate costumes, including leather outfits and faerie ears. Dalia Luque, a participant, emphasized the importance of sharing the moment with fellow fans, despite having the option to preorder online. Attendees engaged in activities like trivia, face painting, and bracelet-making while waiting for the new book.
A Fandom Reunited
‘A Court of Splintered Harmony’ marks the series’ sixth installment and comes after a hiatus since 2018. The ACOTAR series, known for its romantasy blend, features a cast of attractive faeries and humans navigating complex relationships. Luque described the series as an escape to an intriguing new world.
Fan Engagement
Ivana Wong, another attendee, expressed her excitement for the book, winning the costume contest with her starry dress and silver headpiece. Like many others, she took time off work to immerse herself in the story. Chastity Mayhaus, a recent Washington, D.C. resident, attended the event to form connections with similar-minded fans and explore local book clubs.
The Power of In-Person Events
Nicole Davidow, the event organizer, noted this was her first midnight release party at Politics and Prose. Initially planning to sell 50 tickets, the event attracted about 70 fans, reflecting the community’s eagerness for in-person gatherings. Davidow highlighted the desire among fans to move from online interactions to face-to-face experiences.
Once the clock reached midnight, attendees lined up to purchase their eagerly awaited copies. With the book finally in hand, they left the bookstore to delve into the new adventures awaiting them in the pages.
