Terry McLaurin Out for the Season with Knee Injury

The Washington Commanders face a setback as wide receiver Terry McLaurin will miss the remainder of the season due to a torn left patellar tendon. Head coach Dan Quinn announced that McLaurin requires surgery to address the injury.

“He brings immense value both on and off the field,” Quinn noted, reflecting on McLaurin’s contributions from training camp through the season. “Starting the game the way he did was meaningful,” he added.

During the first quarter of the Commanders’ 23-17 loss to the San Francisco 49ers, McLaurin suffered the injury while running a route. The incident occurred at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, on October 19, 2026. McLaurin was taken off the field on a cart with an air cast on his left leg.

The 31-year-old player, a two-time Pro Bowler, has spent his entire eight-year NFL career with the Commanders. In the current season, he made 15 receptions for 230 yards and one touchdown over five games.

“He brings immense value both on and off the field,” Quinn noted, reflecting on McLaurin’s contributions from training camp through the season. “Starting the game the way he did was meaningful,” he added.

Before the 2025 season, McLaurin secured a three-year, $96 million deal after a protracted holdout. The agreement extends until 2028. He is due $23.3 million for the next season, including $5.35 million of guaranteed money for injury, contingent on his health status by April 1. This clause could affect his future with the team.

McLaurin had compiled 513 catches, 7,191 yards, and 42 touchdowns throughout his career before this injury.

With McLaurin sidelined, players like Stefon Diggs, rookie Antonio Williams, and tight end Chig Okonkwo could see increased action. They will be looking to connect with quarterback Jayden Daniels more frequently.

Currently, the Commanders hold a 1-4-1 record and rank last in the NFC East. They have a bye week in Week 7, offering some reprieve during this challenging season.
