On Thursday, President Donald Trump announced he will not livestream the execution of Nidal Malik Hasan, the Fort Hood shooter. This decision goes against the suggestions of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.
In a Truth Social post, Trump described Hasan as a “very bad and evil man” who will still face execution by firing squad. Trump mentioned that although streaming the execution might act as a strong deterrent, he decided against it. He explained that many people, whom he described as “very good and well meaning,” would prefer not to witness the event through streaming or any visual means.
There won’t be a livestream, but the families of the victims may attend in person if they choose. Trump emphasized, “They deserve to witness JUSTICE!”
Hasan was responsible for a shooting spree in 2009 at Fort Hood, Texas, which resulted in the deaths of 13 individuals and injuries to over 30 others.
Previously, on October 8, Hegseth had discussed plans to publicly broadcast Hasan’s execution, a move that would have been unprecedented in the United States for decades. However, both Trump and Vice President JD Vance objected to this idea following the interview. Concerns were also voiced by former military leaders.
