Washington — President Trump announced scrutiny over Kimberly Guilfoyle’s role as U.S. ambassador to Greece. An allegation arose from an associate of Guilfoyle, asserting she solicited $100,000 to address her American Express bill, promising assistance with Trump administration matters prior to her Senate confirmation.
The president commented, “We’re not happy,” when asked if he planned to dismiss Guilfoyle, while en route to Ohio.
Businessman Eric Deters shared his perspective with CBS News. He stated, “No doubt it was pay-to-play,” revealing text exchanges with Guilfoyle. These messages appeared to show her request for funds. Deters, however, confirmed no money was transferred, and expressed relief over his financial unavailability at the time, admitting he might have complied otherwise.
Guilfoyle’s attorney challenged the validity of these communications in conversation with The Wall Street Journal, which initially reported on this issue.
President Trump nominated Guilfoyle, previously engaged to Donald Trump Jr., as ambassador to Greece. Her confirmation took place in September 2025, following a hearing in July of the same year. Recently, she gained attention during Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s official visit to Greece.
A photo captured during a Greek Independence Day reception at the White House on March 26, 2026, shows President Donald Trump alongside Ambassador Guilfoyle, John Catsimatidis, and Margo Catsimatidis.
This situation continues to evolve.
