Arch Manning’s Journey with Texas Longhorns and NFL Draft Prospects

Arch Manning is committed to helping the Texas Longhorns, ranked No. 1, reach the College Football Playoff. The goal this season is to secure a spot in the national championship game. Many, however, are keenly focused on his potential career at the next level in football.

Manning, nephew to NFL legends Peyton and Eli Manning, has long carried the burden of expectations since his high school days as a leading prospect. Despite some impressive displays on the field, ESPN places him at No. 5 in the 2027 NFL Draft’s recent quarterback rankings.

An AFC assistant general manager remarked to ESPN about Manning’s perceived high potential, saying, This blind faith seems to stem from his family name.

Manning’s past season was seen as subpar by some, though he passed for 3,163 yards, with 26 touchdowns and seven interceptions over 13 games in 2025. This year, he has accumulated 862 passing yards, seven touchdowns, and three interceptions, contributing to the Longhorns’ 4-0 record. This includes a notable 21-point comeback against Ohio State.

His entry into college football carried immense expectations due to the legacy of his family’s quarterbacks, even though he has had inconsistencies in meeting those standards. Yet, much of the college season remains, allowing for growth.

NFL teams are scrutinizing Manning alongside other top quarterback prospects as the April draft approaches. Every aspect of his gameplay is vital, from passes to pre-snap decisions.

One AFC scout told ESPN that Manning possesses potential that could be appreciated later, if not immediately. His name means he will always be judged differently, said the scout. He might not be the best in this class, but his flashes hint at future possibilities.

It’s common for prospects to enhance their draft stocks through strong performances, and the NFL Scouting Combine often influences evaluations.

The upcoming draft class includes top quarterbacks like Oklahoma State’s Drew Mestemaker, Miami’s Darian Mensah, Ole Miss’ Trinidad Chambliss, and Notre Dame’s CJ Carr, all ranked ahead of Manning by ESPN.

Manning will have several opportunities to alter these perceptions in the following weeks, facing five consecutive ranked opponents. After the Red River Rivalry game against Oklahoma, Texas will compete against No. 16 Florida, No. 9 Ole Miss, No. 17 Mississippi State, No. 14 Missouri, and No. 10 LSU.
