First Atlantic Hurricane of 2026 Approaches Gulf Coast

The first hurricane of the Atlantic season in 2026 is approaching the United States, targeting the Gulf Coast. Meteorologists are closely monitoring the storm as it moves towards landfall.

Hurricane Isaias, currently a Category 2 storm, threatens the central Gulf Coast and parts of the Southeast. Experts warn of heavy rain, destructive winds, and significant flooding risks, including storm surges.

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) predicts the storm will likely make landfall late Friday or early Saturday, affecting the Florida Panhandle and Alabama. The NHC also warned of potential tornadoes in Alabama, Florida, and Georgia.

“With the storm making landfall at night, flooding from storm surge and freshwater is more dangerous as it is challenging to gauge the water’s speed and depth,” stated Peyton Simmers, an AccuWeather meteorologist.

There is also a warning of nocturnal tornadoes, which are hard to detect in the dark. These tornadoes can form quickly, so residents, even those far from the landfall point, should ensure they receive warnings.

This is an ongoing situation and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
