Wynonna Judd expressed surprise after learning Rosie O’Donnell had publicly characterized her as a supporter of President Donald Trump. In response to O’Donnell’s comments, Judd emphasized that the two have never discussed politics.
Judd told People, “I’m in shock, just so you know. I’ve never spoken to her about politics in my life. She doesn’t know anything about my stuff. I’m an independent.” Judd further noted her confusion, saying, “I don’t know where it came from. It’s complete assumption. I heard it and I went, ‘What the …?’” Despite the assumption, she stated, “I’m not angry,” highlighting that there was no basis for O’Donnell’s claim.
“I just don’t want drama,” Judd remarked, addressing her desire to avoid turning the situation into a public dispute. “So, if there’s going to be drama, I’m like, ‘Oh for crap’s sake, there’s so much going on right now in the world. Can we just love each other?’”
O’Donnell discussed their friendship on an August podcast, where she mentioned Judd as the one Trump supporter with whom she maintains a close bond, managing to keep politics separate. O’Donnell reflected on their friendship by emphasizing that she “gives her a grace,” understanding Judd’s personal history. She added, “I really love her, and I care about her. And, for some reason, I’m able to put that aside when we interact.”
Their friendship dates back decades, with Judd frequently appearing on O’Donnell’s 1990s daytime talk show. They have remained friends despite O’Donnell’s ongoing criticisms of Trump. The mutual respect between the two has evidently provided a strong foundation for their relationship.
