Trump Campaign Targets Young Men via Cryptocurrency

The president’s 2024 campaign made strategic use of cryptocurrency to capture the attention of young men, a group increasingly turning away from the Republican party during the midterm elections.

On October 1, 2026, Donald Trump, then a candidate for president, delivered remarks at a bitcoin conference held in Nashville. This event, captured by Mark Humphrey for the Associated Press, highlighted the campaign’s focus on engaging with the growing crypto community.

Carl Runefelt, recognized for his cryptocurrency-centered content under the alias ‘the Moon,’ commands a TikTok audience of 2.2 million followers. Despite his lack of interest in politics, Runefelt found himself enthusiastic when he heard a prominent U.S. politician discuss bitcoin publicly. In response, he increased his bitcoin holdings in celebration of having a crypto-supportive U.S. president. Additionally, Runefelt invested in the president’s own token.
