Attorney General’s Political Appearances Raise Concerns

The nation’s leading federal law official is facing scrutiny over his recent political activities. With only five weeks remaining until the midterm elections, some experts argue that Attorney General Todd Blanche is crossing boundaries intended to maintain the Justice Department’s impartiality from partisan influence.

Justice correspondent Ali Rogin reports on this development. Rogin, who covers the Supreme Court and America’s legal system for PBS NewsHour, has been recognized for her journalism with a Peabody Award in 2021. She earned this accolade for her work on NewsHour’s series examining the worldwide impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Rogin has also won two Edward R. Murrow Awards from the Radio Television Digital News Association. Her work has been part of several Emmy-nominated teams, including coverage of significant events such as the fall of ISIS in 2020, the mass shooting in Las Vegas in 2017, President Barack Obama’s inauguration in 2014, and the 2010 midterm elections.
