If you notice smoke on the South Side of Chicago near the Obama Presidential Center this Monday and Tuesday, there’s no need to worry. The Chicago Alerts social media account has informed residents that special smoke effects will be in use near the Obama Center, the University of Chicago campus, and the Griffin Museum of Science and Industry. These effects will occur from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both days.
The Chicago Film Office has confirmed that these alerts are due to the filming of an episode of NBC’s “Chicago Fire.” Production will take place on Dorchester Avenue between 55th Place and 56th Street. A simulated rescue scene will be filmed, featuring substantial smoke effects on the rooftop and upper floors of an apartment building on S. Dorchester. The surrounding area will see smoke that dissipates quickly.
“Chicago Fire” is set to return for its 15th season on October 7 on NBC.
