A civilian was detained outside MacDill Air Force Base in Florida on Saturday. This occurred after the individual engaged violently with security personnel, as reported by the 6th Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs Office.
The civilian breached the perimeter of the Tampa base at around 1 p.m. The confrontation with security personnel resulted in non-life-threatening injuries for both an officer and the civilian, according to local reports from FOX 13 and WTSP-TV.
The base notified the public through a Facebook post at approximately 2:30 p.m. that the Dale Mabry Gate was closed to all traffic. They advised planning accordingly and avoiding the area until further notice.
Tensions heightened as the investigation remains active.
Tampa Police Department officers blocked traffic near the base’s main entrance in response to the situation. There was an earlier report of a suspicious package at the gate, which had disrupted normal activities as well.
MacDill Air Force Base, located in Tampa, is home to the headquarters of U.S. Central Command. Authorities have not disclosed what prompted the incident.
