Chad Tracy Named Permanent Manager of Boston Red Sox

Chad Tracy Takes the Helm as Permanent Manager

The Boston Red Sox have officially appointed Chad Tracy as their permanent manager, removing his interim status. Tracy, the 49th manager in the franchise’s history, previously took over the role for the dismissed Alex Cora. At the time of his appointment on April 25, the team had a 10-17 record. Since then, under Tracy’s leadership, the Red Sox have improved to a 74-55 record.

Chad Tracy, initially stepping into the position mid-season, secured a three-year contract with the team. His contract extends through the 2029 season, with a club option for 2030. Concurrently, the team exercised options for Craig Breslow, the chief baseball officer, aligning both leaders’ terms through 2030.

“Craig and Chad are two exceptionally talented leaders who have earned these opportunities in very different ways,” said Red Sox President & CEO Sam Kennedy. “Over the last three years, we have watched Craig bring clarity, discipline, and conviction to the work of building our baseball operation. Chad was asked to step into a difficult situation with little notice, but the trust he immediately commanded at the major league level was earned through years of work across our organization.”

Since Tracy took charge, the Red Sox have ranked second in the American League and fifth overall in Major League Baseball. His tenure includes a historic 30-game winning stretch from July 3 to August 7, where the team achieved a 27-3 record.

Red Sox’s Postseason Prospects

The team’s impressive performance under Tracy clinched a postseason spot. They are set to face the New York Yankees in a Wild Card Series. This matchup follows last season’s elimination by the Yankees, setting the stage for potential redemption.

Chad Tracy, who played eight seasons in the minor leagues, began coaching in 2015. He gained experience within the Los Angeles Angels organization and served as a minor league manager. He joined the Red Sox as the manager of their Triple-A affiliate, Worcester, in 2022 before his promotion.
