A New Yorker’s Remembrance of September 11

On the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks, a solemn scene unfolds at the 9/11 memorial in New York City. This image, captured by Angelina Katsanis for AP Photo, evokes an array of memories for many, especially lifelong New Yorkers.

Daniel Edward Rosen, writing for City Journal, an urban policy magazine published by the Manhattan Institute, shares a deeply personal account of that tragic day. In August 2001, Rosen had recently graduated from college and was living in a converted loft in TriBeCa, a short distance from the World Trade Center. The loft, shared with four roommates, offered an expansive view of lower Manhattan, showcasing the twin towers standing proudly just eight blocks away.
