Judge Judy Sheindlin is preparing to move away from her television role.
Judge Judy is passing the gavel to her son, Adam Levy, in ‘Adam’s Law,’ the courtroom program she created and is an executive producer,a representative for Sheindlin confirmed.It premieres in national syndication this Monday, Sept. 14.
Despite leaving her on-screen duties, Sheindlin is not retiring entirely. She expressed her intention to retire from TV after her Prime Video series, Judy Justice, concludes in October.
Sheindlin, 83, highlighted her desire to shift focus from hair and makeup routines while still communicating her message.
Her son, Adam Levy, will star in his own show, Adam’s Law. Levy, who graduated from Hofstra Law School, practiced law privately and served as the District Attorney in Putnam County, N.Y. before launching his television career in 2023.
There aren’t a lot of people who can carry a half hour on their own unscripted,Sheindlin stated.He has what it takes.
Sheindlin began her legal career after graduating from New York Law School in 1965. She worked as a prosecutor dealing with juvenile crime, domestic violence, and child-abuse cases starting in 1972. After retiring from family court, she launched her syndicated show, Judge Judy, in 1996, which ran for 25 seasons, peaking at 10 million viewers.
Judge Judy became recognized for her direct approach and memorable catchphrases. Her influence extended to many viewers, particularly women, as reflected in the emails and letters received.
They told me the show helped them take the next step, whether it was getting a divorce, leaving an abusive person, asking for a raise, and never, ever becoming somebody’s prisoner,Sheindlin mentioned to the LA Times in 2021.
During an interview, Sheindlin’s granddaughter, Sarah Rose, shared insights about her grandmother, noting her blend of sternness and kindness. She shared key advice from Sheindlin: You have to define yourself, and you tell other people who you are.
Sarah emphasized the importance of self-confidence, attributing her own to her grandmother’s influence.
