A federal jury in Los Angeles has acquitted Grammy-winning rapper Lil Durk, whose real name is Durk Devontay Banks, in a murder-for-hire plot. He faced multiple felony charges including murder, stalking, and conspiracy. The plot allegedly targeted another rapper.
Five members of Lil Durk’s Chicago-based rap collective, known as “Only the Family” (OTF), were also implicated. The jury found Lil Durk not guilty on all charges. Among his co-defendants, Deandre “OTF Dede” Wilson and David “Browneyez” Lindsey were convicted of stalking and conspiracy charges, but acquitted of murder-for-hire. They were tried alongside Lil Durk.
Lil Durk performed at the Lollapalooza music festival on July 30, 2022, in Chicago’s Grant Park.
Federal prosecutors had accused Durk of a plot against Atlanta rapper Quando Rondo, whose real name is Tyquian Bowman. Rondo was the target in a 2022 shooting near the Beverly Center in L.A. Although he was not hit, his cousin, Saviay’a Robinson, aged 24, was killed.
Authorities believe the plot was retaliation for the murder of OTF rapper King Von, who was killed in Atlanta outside the Monaco Hookah Lounge. Durk allegedly offered a bounty for Rondo’s death.
Keith “Flacka” Jones, implicated in the case, pleaded guilty to Robinson’s murder and testified against Durk, Wilson, and Lindsey. Kavon “OTF Vonnie” Grant also pleaded guilty and testified.
Durk received the 2024 Grammy Award for Best Melodic Rap Performance for his song “All My Life” featuring J. Cole. He has been nominated for a Grammy three additional times. If convicted, Durk might have faced a life sentence.
