A sheriff’s deputy in East Texas experienced a shock when a deer thought to be dead jumped up, causing the officer to sprint back to his patrol car. This unexpected moment, captured on the deputy’s dashboard camera, quickly became popular online.
The video was shared on Facebook by Trinity County Sheriff Woody Wallace, who humorously noted how certain situations can ‘scare the heck out of a person.’ He playfully invited social media users to view the deputy’s encounter with the deer, which came back to life unexpectedly.
The footage begins with the deputy approaching a seemingly lifeless doe on the roadside. As he moves in to check on the animal, the deer suddenly leaps up. This causes the startled officer to scream and retreat to his vehicle. Laughing off the shock, the deputy remarks, “OK, we’re good.”
Before the video concludes, the deer is observed sitting upright on the roadside. Sheriff Wallace informed viewers that the deer ‘made a full recovery’ and safely entered nearby woods.
Reflecting on the incident, Sheriff Wallace humorously wrote about the deer’s escape into the East Texas woods without facing any ‘citation.’ He mentioned this was ‘just another night shift where anything can happen.’
The shared video gained rapid popularity, with Wallace stating it has been viewed over 10 million times.
