Yasmine Mohammed: From Forced Marriage to Advocacy Against Islamic Radicalism

Sitting amidst the serenity of her flower-adorned office, Yasmine Mohammed reflects on her tumultuous past. An ex-Muslim once forced to marry an al-Qaeda terrorist, she now educates others about Islamic radicalism.

In an interview with Fox News Digital, Mohammed shared harrowing experiences. “I had to accept being beaten and raped,” she recalled. Her mother provided religious justifications, telling her she had no right to complain as she was considered her husband’s property.

Mohammed’s nightmare extended further when she became pregnant. Her husband spoke about taking their daughter to Egypt for female genital mutilation. Realizing she had to escape, Mohammed knew she must protect her daughter, find safety from her husband, and distance herself from her mother.

Raised in a secular Muslim family in Canada, Mohammed wore the hijab and niqab at various times. Her mother’s radicalization was pivotal in leading to Mohammed’s forced, abusive marriage to Essam Marzouk, an Egyptian terrorist. She serves as a co-director of the Clarity Coalition and wrote “Unveiled.”

Mohammed recounted Marzouk’s childhood in Egypt, where class struggles marked his life after moving to an upscale neighborhood. She believes these challenges contributed to his radicalization, a process she asserts is mirrored in many Ivy League universities in the United States.
