The airport in Nashville, Tennessee, could soon be renamed to honor Dolly Parton. This proposal was announced by Governor Bill Lee on Friday. Parton, a Tennessee native and beloved country music icon, passed away on Tuesday at the age of 80 due to cancer.
Gov. Lee expressed that renaming the Nashville International Airport after Parton would serve as a tribute to her stature as “our state’s favorite daughter.” Discussions are already underway with Parton’s representatives regarding this change.
Currently, the naming policy of the Metro Nashville Airport Authority requires that airport properties be named only for individuals who have been deceased for at least two years. To proceed with renaming the airport, this policy might need to be revised.
The governor’s proposal, along with the existing naming policy, will be reviewed by the airport authority during their meeting scheduled for September 17.
