LIV Golf Announces Layoffs Amid Funding Changes
LIV Golf has notified numerous employees that their employment will end in early September. This news follows the Saudi Public Investment Fund’s (PIF) decision to cease funding the circuit at the end of the 2026 season. Although LIV’s final event in Indianapolis on August 23 concluded the 2026 campaign, it ended a week early due to the cancellation of the Team Championship in Michigan.
“The funding commitment announced by PIF earlier this year will conclude. Consequently, we are reducing operations as we transition to the next chapter of LIV Golf and work toward making LIV 2.0 a reality,” stated a spokesperson from LIV Golf.

LIV Golf 2.0: Future Plans
LIV leadership remains optimistic about a new version of the league continuing in 2027. They hope that some laid-off employees can return. LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil spoke at a press conference on August 19, 2026, expressing confidence in the future.
Earlier, LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil announced that a new investor had been secured, and a term sheet signed. However, specific details about this investor are yet to be disclosed.
“LIV Golf has an agreement with a lead investor, signed and Board-approved, to play a key role in the future of the League, driven by and for the players,” O’Neil stated.
