An electrifying display of American motorsport will take place in Washington, D.C., as IndyCar racers speed through the city in a unique event. This race marks the celebration of America’s 250th anniversary.

White House Tribute

“President Trump is ensuring America receives the remarkable birthday celebration it deserves,” stated White House spokesman Davis Ingle. The race, titled the Freedom 250 Grand Prix, features top IndyCar drivers, including Indianapolis 500 winner Felix Rosenqvist, competing for the top spot at speeds nearing 200 mph.

Event Details

The race course includes a 1.7-mile, seven-turn circuit with a notable 0.4-mile front stretch on Pennsylvania Avenue. Davis Ingle highlighted the historical significance saying, “The historic IndyCar race in our Nation’s Capital will be an iconic moment.” President Trump was gifted a racing helmet by IndyCar series champion Alex Palou during a showcase event at the White House.

Local and National Impact

Indiana Representative Erin Houchin expressed pride in the event, noting Indiana’s status as a motorsports hub. Houchin, who experienced a fast lap preview, mentioned the thrill and the views of the Capitol building as highlights. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy led the race’s organization and emphasized the race as a testament to American pride and innovation.

“Nothing is more American than racing fast cars through our Nation’s Capital,” Duffy remarked. “The Department of Transportation is proud to support this extraordinary celebration.”

Excitement Builds

In July, President Trump stood outside the White House discussing the upcoming event with notable figures like Roger Penske and Bud Denker. He remarked on the event’s display of American patriotism and ingenuity. Officers changed an IndyCar’s four tires and filled its gas tank in under six seconds during a pit stop demonstration.

The race, providing free general admission, begins at 1 p.m. ET and invites the public to witness the spectacle.
