Dallas Wings guard Azzi Fudd will have season-ending surgery on her sore knee. This injury has kept the No. 1 overall pick from playing in the last five games.
The team announced that Fudd will undergo arthroscopic surgery on her right knee next week. The procedure will take place in Connecticut, where Fudd had a stellar college career with UConn. She became the second consecutive top overall pick by Dallas after Paige Bueckers, the WNBA Rookie of the Year, was selected first the previous year.
Initially, Fudd started her rookie season coming off the bench for six games. She scored 24 points in her sixth game and became a starter. Her highest-scoring game came in June against Seattle, where she netted 26 points.
Fudd has averaged 13.1 points over 30 games this season. She participated in warmups before a home game against Golden State on August 7 but was held out due to persistent soreness.
Bueckers and Fudd were teammates at UConn and won the national championship in 2025. Since a six-game winning streak, the Wings have struggled with a 3-8 record. Despite this, the team is on track to make the playoffs for the first time since 2023.
The Dallas Wings are set to face the Indiana Fever, led by Caitlin Clark, at the home of the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday night.
