On Tuesday, a joint practice session between the New Orleans Saints and Dallas Cowboys saw several disruptions due to fights. Despite the interruptions, Saints head coach Kellen Moore remained calm about the situation.
Moore remarked, “All the chippiness of it, not the ideal flow of a joint practice, but we got the work we need,” highlighting his focus on the outcomes of the practice, as reported by ProFootballTalk.
Conversely, Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer expressed significant frustration with the events. He conveyed his disappointment over the reduced productivity caused by the continuous brawls.
Moore and Schottenheimer previously worked together as assistants for the Cowboys in 2022. Moore shared insights into their communication, emphasizing their past experiences together. “Schotty and I communicated. We know each other from working in the past, so we communicated,” he stated.
Moore commented on the inherent emotional nature of football, stating, “There’s a lot of rah-rah and emotion to football, and that’s part of it. At the end of the day it’s about executing and running football plays.” He stressed the importance of removing emotions from the gameplay to focus on execution. “Take all the emotion out of it, watch it without all the rah-rah to it and we’ll get some good lessons,” he added.
The Saints and Cowboys are set to meet in a preseason game on August 28. The outcome of this game may reflect the lessons learned and practices executed following their heated practice session.
