Endangered Leopards at Brookfield Zoo Celebrate First Birthday
Two Amur leopards, Lacy and Sady, marked their first birthday at the Brookfield Zoo in Chicago. These leopards, considered critically endangered, have fewer than 100 individuals believed to be living in the wild. The zoo designed a special treat to offer mental and physical stimulation and to promote natural behaviors. Visitors can see these agile climbers in their habitat at the Big Cats Walkway.
DuPage Forest Preserve Photo Contest
The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County invites residents to participate in its 2026 photo contest, aimed at helping people reconnect with nature. The contest includes categories like Wildlife & Plants, Landscapes & Places, and People & Recreation. Entries are open to Illinois residents aged 18 and older, and photos must be taken in any DuPage County forest preserve. Winners can choose from technology, camera equipment, or framed prints as prizes.
Online voting for the Voters’ Choice winner continues through September 14, with prizes such as a Kodak Printomatic camera offered. Random prize drawings will also occur. Complete rules and entry details are available at the DuPage Forest Preserve website.
Caught Off Guard Band Performance at Senior Living Community
The Caught Off Guard band will perform free concerts at the Oak Park Arms Senior Living Community. Residents and guests can enjoy performances on August 21 and September 18. The band features a mix of blues, jazz, soul, funk, and R&B. In case of poor weather, concerts will move to the center’s historic ballroom.
Elmhurst History Museum Summer Concert Series
The Elmhurst History Museum’s Fourth Fridays summer concert series features the Blooze Brothers Band on August 28. The free concert takes place at 120 E. Park Ave., supported in part by the Dr. Virginia R. Stuart Memorial Fund.
Triton College Radiology Student Earns State Award
Gerek Wright, a second-year radiology student at Triton College, won first place in the Student Scientific Paper Competition at the Illinois State Society of Radiologic Technologists Conference. His paper focused on kyphosis, a spinal condition. Another student, Samantha McDonald, ranked third in the Kahoot Review Competition. Both achievements showcase the strength of Triton’s Radiologic Technology program.
