Crane Malfunction in Miami Causes Concern But No Injuries

Construction workers in Miami faced a dangerous situation on Friday when a crane arm malfunctioned and collapsed, crashing onto the pool deck of a nearby luxury high-rise. A bystander, Macie Norrod, captured the event on video as the arm flew through the air and smashed into the elevated pool area at One Plaza West Brickell.

From her home office, Norrod witnessed the incident and described her reaction as one of “shock and disbelief,” according to Storyful. She feared for the workers’ lives, worrying they might be crushed by the crane’s weight.

The video revealed workers wearing green vests, clinging to the crane’s upper structure during the collapse. They managed to safely climb down using ladders afterward. The crane was in the process of being assembled and was not yet operational when it experienced a failure, as explained by Miami Fire Rescue spokesperson Lt. Pete Sanchez to Fox News Digital.

Following the failure, the crane’s arm fell onto the rooftop deck, partially submerging into the pool. A photo shared by Miami Fire Rescue showed the scene. Firefighters quickly accessed the area, conducted a search, and confirmed no victims were present. The area was secured and cordoned off to ensure no residents or the public could enter while crews secured the scene.

The construction crew confirmed to authorities that all workers were accounted for and none were injured. The Miami Building Department and the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration are investigating the incident, according to the Miami Herald.
