Chrissy Metz Discusses Her Decision to Use GLP-1 Medications

Chrissy Metz recently shared her experience with GLP-1 medications for weight loss after years of skepticism. The ‘This Is Us’ actress, during her appearance on the ‘Today’ show, talked about her health journey as she entered perimenopause and considered her family’s obesity history.

Metz said, “I was very skeptical about GLP-1s for years.” Encouraged by a friend’s advice and observing her father’s health challenges, Metz decided to explore further the benefits of the medication.

“I thought maybe I should try and get ahead of it,” she said, explaining her motivation. Metz has noticed improvements in her energy and overall health since starting the drug.

Although initially nervous, Metz’s priority was her health longevity. Her doctor and medical team agreed it would benefit her. “Learning what it really was and how it affects everybody differently, my doctor and my team were like, ‘Yeah, I think this would be beneficial for you,’” Metz explained.

Metz has not only relied on medication. She has adopted strength training and exercise as part of a broader lifestyle change. “It’s not just taking medication. I think a lot of people think it’s a magic wand, and no, you have to be more diligent,” she emphasized.

The actress noted that her decision aligns with a public conversation on her weight and health, which includes her portrayal of Kate Pearson in NBC’s ‘This Is Us’. Her character’s storyline highlighted struggles with weight and body image.

Metz has talked openly about her complicated relationship with food, a challenge that began long before her Hollywood career. In 2024, Metz revealed her past experiences of mental, physical, and emotional abuse from her stepfather, which impacted her relationship with her body and food.

As she works on healing and understanding food issues, Metz advocates for education and open conversations to challenge attitudes towards weight. “I think I’m trying to heal those wounds slowly but surely,” she noted.
