The NFL season is on the horizon, and attention turns to the Cincinnati Bengals’ star wide receiver, Ja’Marr Chase. Known for his impressive skills on the field, Chase is poised to continue his ascent as one of the top receivers in the league.
Last season, Chase ranked third in the NFL with a remarkable 125 receptions and fourth in receiving yards, achieving 1,412. Additionally, he tied for 11th in the league with eight receiving touchdowns. Chase expressed a clear determination to surpass this mark in the coming season.
Honestly, man, the only goal that I have for myself going forward is to get 23 touchdowns… I want to break the record with that,Chase shared in a conversation with NFL Network.
Chase emphasized improvement as a daily pursuit by adding, My goal is to be better the next day than the last day. Try to get my team better than what they were the last day.
The record for single-season receiving touchdowns stands at 23, set by Randy Moss in 2007 with the New England Patriots alongside quarterback Tom Brady. To achieve a new record, Chase must secure at least 24 touchdowns in a single season.
This goal appears within reach for Chase, given that he achieved 17 touchdowns in 2024, marking his career high with the Bengals. Aiding Chase’s ambition is the return of quarterback Joe Burrow, who missed part of last season due to injury and participated in only eight games. During his limited presence, Burrow managed 17 touchdown passes.
Chase recorded multiple two-touchdown games last season and would need several such performances in the upcoming season. Furthermore, the current NFL schedule provides Chase with one additional regular season game compared to Moss’s 2007 season, offering increased opportunities to set the record.
With the training camp and preseason preparations concluding this month, Chase’s quest for the record will commence when the Bengals face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, Sept. 13.
