Ariana Grande has exited her upcoming role in a London stage musical, according to the show’s producers. The decision is part of her plan to step away from public life due to increasing scrutiny.
Grande was set to perform alongside Jonathan Bailey in Stephen Sondheim’s Sunday in the Park with George at the Barbican Centre in 2027. Empire Street Productions stated that Grande’s decision was difficult but has their full support. They will proceed with the show’s summer opening, with new casting to be announced soon.
Grande’s spokesperson informed People magazine that the 33-year-old singer will reduce her public presence after finishing the Eternal Sunshine Tour. The statement emphasized her desire to end the tour on a positive note and then take a needed break from intense public attention.
While specific reasons weren’t detailed, Grande’s appearance and health have often been topics of public conversation. This intensified after her latest music video, Petal, depicting her as a performer facing repeated rejection at auditions.
In response to ongoing scrutiny, Grande previously addressed the issue through her music. Her 2024 track Yes, And? highlights her stance, with lyrics expressing boundaries over personal comments. In 2023, she shared a viral TikTok video urging empathy, stressing the importance of kindness as no one fully knows others’ personal struggles.
