Father Voices Concerns Over Immigration Enforcement
The father of James Ray Walden III, a U.S. Marine killed in a hit-and-run, is speaking out after U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested the illegal immigrant for a third time. Martin Martinez-Ballinas, a 38-year-old Mexican national, was taken into custody on July 22 after completing a federal prison sentence for illegally reentering the United States.
Third Deportation and Past Convictions
Federal officials report that Martinez-Ballinas faces his third deportation. He was previously convicted in connection with a 2017 crash in Maryland that killed Marine James Ray Walden III. Martinez-Ballinas, deported in 2020, attempted to reenter the U.S. in Texas the following year, leading to a 15-month prison sentence. After another deportation in 2022, he reentered the country undetected, with ICE blaming the Biden administration’s border policies.
Details of the Fatal Crash
Walden stated that Martinez-Ballinas was driving without a license or insurance when he collided head-on with his son’s motorcycle. Maryland officials were aware of Martinez-Ballinas’s illegal status, as he had been arrested five times between 2012 and 2017 but released each time.
James Ray Walden III: A Promising Future Cut Short
James Ray Walden III served as an accomplished Marine and intelligence analyst at the National Security Agency. His father remembered him as a talented crypto-analyst, highly regarded by his NSA colleagues. The future Walden envisioned was abruptly ended.
Calls to Abolish ICE Criticized
Walden expressed disapproval towards some Democratic leaders advocating to abolish ICE. He described the suggestion as irrational and emphasized the importance of enforcing immigration laws. Walden pointed out that his son’s tragic death illustrates the necessity of immigration enforcement.
“You’re never gonna understand the pain, the hole in your soul that this brings until it happens to you.”
You cannot predict such events, but prevention is possible, Walden stressed.
Trump’s Immigration Policies Praised
Walden praised President Donald Trump for his focus on immigration enforcement, crediting him for standing by his commitments.
