President Donald Trump expressed satisfaction after a judge permitted his legal team to revise his $15 billion defamation lawsuit against The New York Times. Trump shared his thoughts on Truth Social, stating that the decision came after years of alleged harassment and defamation by the publication.
“The Failing New York Times has failed again in its attempt to have our lawsuit dismissed,” Trump wrote. He mentioned that the judge’s new ruling calls for an updated complaint detailing numerous instances of alleged defamation involving him, his family, and their political movement.
Trump emphasized the determination to hold The Times and other media accountable for spreading what he called ‘Fake News.’ He urged attention to this matter as the case progresses.
The legal team for Trump has until August 27 to amend the lawsuit, according to the U.S. District Court for Florida’s Middle District, located in Tampa. The New York Times did not provide a comment when contacted by Fox News Digital.
The lawsuit accuses The New York Times of defamation over several decades, including their coverage of “The Apprentice” and claims of questionable tax strategies. Named defendants include reporters Susanne Craig, Russ Buettner, Peter Baker, and Michael S. Schmidt, along with Penguin Random House, publisher of a book by Craig and Buettner titled “Lucky Loser: How Donald Trump Squandered His Father’s Fortune and Created the Illusion of Success.”
A spokesperson for The Times previously dismissed the lawsuit, citing lack of merit, and described it as an attempt to suppress independent journalism. The Times expressed its resolve to continue reporting without being influenced by intimidation.
