Child Injured in Chicago Drive-by Shooting

A 5-year-old boy sustained critical injuries in a drive-by shooting on the Near West Side in Chicago, according to police reports. The incident occurred in the early hours, shortly after 12:30 a.m., in the Little Italy/UIC neighborhood.

A black SUV drove up to a large group gathered in the 1000 block of West 14th Place. An individual inside the vehicle opened fire on the group. The young boy was struck in the abdomen and hurried to Stroger Hospital. He remains in critical condition.

A 39-year-old man also suffered a gunshot wound to the buttocks. He was transported to the same hospital and is in good condition.

Police indicated the SUV fled south on Morgan Street following the shooting. Detectives are investigating, but no arrests have been made at this time.
