Texas Republican Senator Ted Cruz is looking ahead to future political shifts, anticipating substantial changes within the Democratic Party by the 2028 election. In a recent video post on X, Cruz expressed his belief that Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, known as AOC, will run for president. Additionally, he predicted New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani would replace Senator Chuck Schumer.
Cruz commented on these predictions, suggesting they are detrimental to America, and mentioning that some Republicans are supporting radical opponents. He emphasized the necessity of two political parties that genuinely love the country. In a separate post, Cruz pointed out that Schumer can no longer win a Democratic primary in New York, implying that Schumer might join the potential AOC presidential campaign.
“Chuck Schumer is finished. He can never again win a Democrat primary in New York. He knows it,” Cruz stated, implying Schumer’s political sunset.

Her broad national presence, robust social media engagement, and sway with progressive voters have placed her in the spotlight.
Mamdani’s rising influence in New York politics has also prompted speculation about his long-term ambitions. Recent Democratic primaries highlight the progressive wing’s strengthening influence, with left-leaning candidates achieving successes over establishment figures. These victories suggest that progressive leaders might increasingly shape the Democratic Party’s strategy heading into the 2028 cycle.
Meanwhile, fresh polling data is painting a dynamic picture for the upcoming race. In Republican circles, Vice President JD Vance is a prominent contender, though Secretary of State Marco Rubio is gaining traction, indicating a rapidly shifting political terrain.
Survey Insights
The University of New Hampshire Survey Center recently highlighted the Democratic primary landscape. Ocasio-Cortez leads with 22 percent, followed by former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg at 21 percent. Arizona Senator Mark Kelly has 9 percent, California Governor Gavin Newsom holds 8 percent, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders has 6 percent, and former Vice President Kamala Harris gathers 5 percent. Other candidates fell below the 5 percent mark.
Conducted between July 15 to July 20, the poll involved 648 likely Democratic voters with a 3.8 percent margin of error, and 579 likely Republican voters with a 4.1 percent margin.
Ocasio-Cortez responded to the poll results with humility and gratitude, stating her priority remains on the midterm elections and securing the party’s majority.
Another Emerson survey reveals Buttigieg leading the Democratic field at 19 percent. Newsom follows at 17 percent, with Senator Jon Ossoff and Ocasio-Cortez each at 13 percent. Harris garners 8 percent, Governor Andy Beshear at 7 percent, Governor Josh Shapiro at 5 percent, and Governor JB Pritzker at 3 percent. Among surveyed voters, 13 percent remain undecided.
Spencer Kimball, Emerson College Polling’s executive director, noted, “Ossoff was added this month, entering at 13% driven by stronger male support, while Newsom leads among women at 25%.”
The Emerson poll sampled 1,100 likely voters from July 19 to July 20, with a 2.9 percent credibility interval.
